"Why would anyone need a website, especially when social media is such a huge deal?"
"Why not just post on social and sell on Etsy?"
"Websites are expensive."
"I cannot build it myself. "
These are all common reasons why people would consider not having a website.
Let's work through each of these statements...
"Why would anyone need a website, especially when social media is such a huge deal?"
Everywhere we look, people are on their phones. Most of them are probably on some sort of social media. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat, YouTube, Twitter - just to name a few. So, as a business owner, why wouldn't you just focus on social media and reaching people that way. Here are a few reasons why:
You don't own your social media page. At any time, that social media can turn your page off for any reason or for no reason at all.
Social media algorithms will determine who will see your post . If the algorithm doesn't like you or experiences some sort of weird glitch - your followers will not see your posts.
Your followers are subject to the algorithm and also if they walk away from social media, you just lost that follower.
"Why not just post on social and sell on Etsy?"
Etsy can be a great place to sell your products, however, you do not own your Etsy page. It is the same situation as Social Media - the algorithm gets to choose who sees your stuff and who doesn't. Etsy can work, but it can become unreliable and you are not in control.
"Websites are expensive."
Websites used to be expensive. I have seen large marketing companies come in and take advantage of small, medium and large size businesses by creating sometimes six figure websites. The marketing companies would then hold that website as ransom, demanding large monthly fees or completely ditching them and leaving them with a dysfunctional website the company could not update themselves.
I believe that things can and should be different. We have been lead to believe that website design is too hard and that we cannot understand it and should be scared to even try. I beg to differ.
After two failed college website design classes (ok, I BARELY passed) I swore I would never design websites. But I tried a different method, I used Wix...AND IT WORKED. Wix has proved to be a great way to build a website and I have seen it help so many take their business to the next level. Now I am committed to creating professional websites for my clients and all the while keeping them as involved as possible in the process so they can manage their site themselves. A business should own their own website and not have to pay large monthly fees...but that's just my opinion!
"I cannot build it myself. "
Again, I was a failing my website design classes...I get it. Website design can be extremely difficult, however, I don't think it has to be. When I found this new method of website design with Wix, it transformed the way I approached website design. Before I approached it as a template with coding and now I get to approach it with creativity and confidence knowing that the site I am building will WORK for me and my customer!
I was able to learn all of these things myself over time. Through research, countless hours on YouTube searching for tutorials and just time spent building, I believe that anyone can learn to build a website and fully enjoy the process.
In fact, I am actually working on a course to build your own Wix Website! There will be more info releasing soon, but if you're interested, you can totally join the waitlist!
If you think you'd like to take your business to the next level but you're not sure where to start - you can always book a brainstorm with me! In these brainstorms, we get to meet via Zoom and sort through your business (or idea), what your goals are and what next steps might be helpful in getting you there!
I hope that this inspires you to try new things in your business!!
