There are so many great website builders out there and this is not an article outing those. When I first started to build websites, I wanted to find an option that would allow me to be creative, create a professional website, and hand over the keys to my clients. This article will explain:
- how/why I started using Wix
- what I like about Wix
- what I don't like about Wix
- make your Wix Website more professional
How and Why I Started to Use Wix
One of my clients was looking to have a website built so I researched how to make it happen. They wanted a simple three page website, no online store, no blog, nothing fancy. The lowest price tag I could find was $5k - which was not in the budget. I started looking for options.
This was 7 years ago when there wasn't much out there on Wix but I began to research to see if I could possibly build a website. It was a success.
Thirteen websites later, I have seen Wix help SO many businesses take their business to the next level.
What I Like About Wix
The editor allows for design freedom, nothing snaps to a template (which is awesome unless you don't know what you're doing and then things start to go sideways).
Their template selection has gotten better over the last year.
Customer Service is SUPER helpful.
Wix has SO MANY GREAT APPS that are native to its system such as eCommerce, Bookings, Blogging, Courses, Subscriptions, and MORE! I love not having to download a third party app.
Integrations - there are a lot of third party apps that are wonderful additions to a site. My favorites: interactive calendars, real estate listings, custom calculators and more!
Very easy to create video tutorials for my clients to update their sites for themselves.
Their email marketing is AMAZING.
I have done a lot of research about Wix and I personally appreciate what I have found out about them as a company especially compared to their competitors.
What I Don't Like About WIx
Wix marketing is TERRIBLE. Every time the YouTube ads pop up I cringe. They are so cheesy and honestly I don't think they paint themselves in the best light.
Their templates are getting better buuuut they are still cheesier than the competitors.
Their freestyle editor is awesome but it can cause beginners to run into errors.
Wix websites are normally ugly and have a reputation for being so. I think that this is because Wix sells you an "easy website builder you can set up in 10 minutes." which is NOT TRUE. Wix is easy but you need direction.
No matter what web developer you choose, the key to a good website is not that developer...IT'S YOU!
You are the one that gets to determine the outcome of a website build. I believe that if you understand the software, the process and your brand you will be able to build a professional website! Wix is what I choose, but it's not my way or the highway.
